The Position

Reporting to Somagen’s Business Unit Manager – Clinical Innovation, the Clinical Sales Representative, Assisted Reproductive Technology, is a key member of the Business Development Team and an integral part of the Somagen business profile.

The Role:

The Clinical Sales Representative role is a field-based national position focused on providing both sales and highly technical/scientific support to our customers. Core to the position of Clinical Sales Representative will be establishing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including IVF Laboratory Directors, Embryologists, Andrologists, Physicians, Nurses, and Clinic Administration, across Canada.

Key Responsibilities:

Professionally represent Somagen Diagnostics to our customers, suppliers and within the industry as a whole, with peers, competitors, and industry representatives.

  • Attain sales performance in line with defined portfolio targets. Create, identify, and manage sales opportunities, across Canada.
  • Promote all assigned product lines in accordance with overall corporate objectives, define specific targets and create custom programs as required.
  • Accelerate growth by understanding drivers for each customer, develop and propose integrated solutions specific to customer needs.
  • Responsible for account contract management and renewals.
  • Ability to address customer objections and offer unique arguments to overcome sales obstacles.
  • Gather and share competitive information and market intelligence on a regular and routine basis.
  • Provide in person scientific and technical sales support to customers for the ART product lines, across Canada. Coordinate customer site visits, qualify accounts requiring support or other interventions and monitor support activities until successful completion of goals.
  • Act as a local scientific resource to support highly specialized and technical projects such as Vitrification, Embryo Culture, Sperm Preparation and Analysis.
  • Support existing customers’ scientific, clinical, technical, and troubleshooting needs for products and instrumentation in the field – acting in a consultative role further supporting protocol improvements and change management.
  • Develop product positioning and value-added benefits that differentiates the company’s products and services. Develop flexible and creative approaches to support customer needs that generate maximum results for Somagen while delivering high customer satisfaction.
  • Develop, update, and support an ART/Fertility Marketing Information System and CRM.
  • Support peers across all departments as a part of a team culture.
  • Support the development of product launches and implementation of go-to-market strategies for respective product portfolio and broader commercial team as required.
  • Leverage knowledge of market gaps and trends to identify new product areas to pursue.
  • Support Business Development activities across multiple disciplines via engaging in market research and data analysis as/when required.
  • Support sales, marketing and technical requirements of other portfolios as required.
  • Manage expense budgets vigorously to maximize corporate profitability.
  • National travel required up to 50% of the time, depending on location. International travel may also be required.

The Candidate:

The successful individual will possess the following characteristics:

  • A minimum 2 years professional clinical or sales experience specific to ART/Fertility or a combination thereof.
  • Master of Science, Embryology (preferred) or a Bachelor of Science in a related discipline (required).
  • Functional experience in the areas of Embryology and Andrology required.
  • Ability to work with scientists and technologists at a clinical academic level.
  • Strong understanding of clinical embryology and andrology protocols and workflows.
  • Demonstrates exemplary oral and written professional communication skills.
  • Written and spoken fluency in English is required. French fluency is desirable and will be prioritized.   
  • Demonstrates a bias for action and is comfortable operating without supervision, manages daily priorities while simultaneously moving longer-term business improvement projects forward, providing high level reporting as and when deemed appropriate.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills together with a robust attention to detail.
  • Has a proven ability to create new processes and procedures to improve efficiencies and optimize business development.
